What Do We Believe?

About God

God is the author of all creation’s story. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19; John 1:1-3; John 4:24; Ephesians 4:5-6) We believe that Jesus, through His death on the cross and resurrection from the grave, offers forgiveness to all who, through faith, receive His gift of salvation and eternal life. (John 3:16; Romans 10:9; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4) We believe the Holy Spirit instills in the human heart a desire to turn to Christ and guides us in living so we become more like Jesus. (Romans 8:28-29)

About Us as a Community

While faith is personal, it is not private. We believe that we are at our best, both individually and collectively, when we come together to share life in a mutually-supportive community. We believe that the church is a fellowship of believers in Jesus, called out of the world to participate in worship, fellowship, and discipleship, but called into the world to ministries of evangelism and acts of love-centered service. (1 Peter 2:9; Acts 2:42-48)

We believe that God gifts all Christians with spiritual gifts and abilities which are to be used to equip the church and bring honor to God. (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31; Ephesians 4:7-16).

About Us as Individuals

We believe that we were created to exist forever and that the decisions and actions we make in life have an impact for eternity. We all have made decisions that run contrary to God’s perfect plan for our lives. These actions (or sin) separate us from God and will lead to eternal separation from God in a place called hell. (Romans 3:23-24; Romans 6:23).

However, that’s not the end of the story. Through belief in Christ we can be reconciled with God, united with God, and live a life, starting today, that culminates in being eternally in union with God in heaven. (2 Peter 3:9, John 3:3) We believe that all Christians are filled by the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion (Romans 8:9; John 14:16,17) and that we are to use the talents, gifts, and abilities that God has given us to serve those around us while here on earth.

About the Bible

We believe in the Holy Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments, as the Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16)

About Freedom

We believe in freedom in Christ. While we strongly affirm the clear teaching of the Word of God, we allow believers the freedom to hold varying interpretations on theological issues that are not clearly presented in Scripture and where full understanding will not occur until heaven. (John 8:31-32)

About Baptism

We believe baptism is a public profession of your faith in Jesus Christ. It is about “going public” with your faith, and it’s the next step after your decision to follow Christ. Baptism is a symbol demonstrating that a believer in Jesus has been buried in Christ, washed clean of the stain of sin, raised to a new life in Him, and now desires to grow to become more like Him. (Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 6:3-5)

About the Future

We believe in the personal and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) We believe in the eternal Kingdom of God where all people who have put their faith and trust in his Son, Jesus, will live in his presence. (2 Peter 1:11, Revelation 11:15)
